I always loved lavender. The scent is very fresh and grassy, just like spring. Whenever I smell lavender flowers or lavender essential oil, I relax easily.
I purchased some dried lavender and chamomile a few months ago with the intention to make potpourri. I have yet to do that. However, the scented sachet in my lingerie drawer was worn out, so I decided to make a new one with the dried lavender and chamomile.
I used scrap t-shirt fabric from my T-Shirt Yarn project to make the scented insert and a piece of scrap silk fabric to cover the insert.
The sachet is easy to make. The challenge is to make an insert that will fill the pillow case without stretching the silk fabric.
You should be able to make the sachet within an afternoon. If you are going to use a sewing machine, then it will take you less time.
Here are the instructions.
1 piece of t-shirt fabric
1 piece of scrap silk fabric
1/2 cup of dried lavender flowers
1/2 cup of dried chamomile flowers
1 sewing needle
1 spool of thread
Cut the t-shirt fabric into a rectangle. Turn the t-shirt fabric wrong side up.
Fold the t-shirt fabric in half, making a square. Pin the sides with the safety pins, leaving the side opposite of the fold open. Sew each side until you reach the opening.
Turn the insert right side up. Fill the insert with the dried lavender and chamomile.
Sew the top to close the insert. Put aside.
Cut the scrap silk fabric into a rectangle. Flip the fabric to the wrong side facing up. Fold fabric in half, making a square. Pin the sides together, leaving the side opposite of the fold open.
Sew each side until you reach the opening. Turn the fabric right side up.
Place the insert inside the opening. Sew the top to close the sachet.
Voilà! You now have a scented sachet.
You could make several of the sachets and place them in your dresser drawers, sweater bags, or anyplace where you store clothes.
The scented sachets are lovely gifts, so make a set and tie them together with a pretty ribbon.
